We all know people who are estranged from each other because of hurtful words spoken and selfish acts committed. What does it take for these people to reconcile to each other? We desire world peace, the end of war and polarization. But we have the experience of broken relationships and internal strife. How do we get internal peace, let alone world peace? At Recon we believe that nothing short of God’s ministry of reconciliation can unite us and restore us to healthy relationships. We are discovering that we need to make peace with God as well as with one another.
Questions we ask at Recon: Why would we not cross lines and show interest in people who are different from us? How much time should we give to trying to make things right between us and a person we have found to be difficult? Where should we start our efforts toward peace in this world? Do our politics, style, education, money, address, preferences, or ethnicity make us so different from each other that we can not build a community together? We are looking to the Bible for answers to these questions. We are listening to each other seeking to learn from each other’s experiences. We are constantly reminding each other of our need to be humble and open. We are learning to listen to each other and eager to help each other.
